Catalfumo Construction And Development Enters 30th Year
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Catalfumo Construction and Development, Inc., one of South Florida’s leading commercial general contractors and commercial real estate developers, is now celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Serving South Florida since February of 1978, the construction and development powerhouse is a single-source provider of comprehensive construction, development and management services. The firm has an impressive portfolio of more than 40 million square feet of commercial, office/corporate, medical/health, industrial, retail, hospitality, educational, residential, retail, mixed-use, transportation, communication, warehouse, high-tech and mini-storage facility projects.
Daniel S. Catalfumo, founder, president and CEO, said the company continues its “Quality from the Ground Up” watchword. “It’s the same credo that served me at the beginning of my career. When something works, I don’t believe in changing it,” he says.

Catalfumo Construction and Development is the story of a transition of a young man who hammered away at his father’s shoe repair shop and, through diligence and his own acumen, pursued his dream of building.
“Put your heart and soul in everything you do, or don’t do it.” That’s what young Dan learned from his father who was (and still is, at age 78) a hardworking cobbler. “I worked hand-in-hand with my dad before I started building homes in 1978 and then transitioned into a commercial-focused development company in 1988,” Catalfumo noted. “My father still goes to work at 5:30 a.m. and returns home at six o’clock in the evening. And, every morning I put on my uniform [a Catalfumo business shirt} and call him to say I’m heading to the office.” That shared work ethic between father and son has led to the success of both their businesses.
To Catalfumo’s credit, he has developed much of Palm Beach County and South Florida, the place he and his family call home. Over the years, his company has been awarded important projects of growing size and stature, adding clients such as Motorola, Office Depot, Marriott, Ritz Carlton and other national companies.
At the start of the new millennium, the company began the development of the prime real estate along PGA Boulevard, east of Interstate 95 in Palm Beach Gardens. This development (The PGA Corridor) is a testament to the firm’s capabilities as Developer (including Planning and Zoning), Construction Manager and Owner. The area encompasses a 350-acre land purchase from the John D. and Catherine MacArthur Foundation. It comprises four business parks and a town center (more than 4 million square feet are completed or underway – office parks, retail shopping centers and residential developments). Legacy Place is the latest phase to be completed, a 75-acre restaurant and shopping destination.
In 2001, Catalfumo solidified his company’s reach by first purchasing Fisher Clark Construction, an interior specialty company. To extend his reach into Broward and Miami-Dade counties, he purchased Seawood Builders, Inc. located in Deerfield Beach in 2004. That company continues under the stewardship of Ed and Betty Masi, its founders, as a division of Catalfumo Construction, LLC. Since its inception in 1979, Seawood Builders has earned a reputation for designing and implementing specialized, creative solutions to a wide range of commercial and residential construction projects.
“There’s no doubt that I’ve gone from small nails to big nails,” Catalfumo remarks. But he hasn’t forgotten his humble beginnings and acts accordingly.

“I feel a bond to South Florida and regularly hire local subcontractors. The people of the county have been gracious to my family and we have very strong roots here,” he points out, adding, “We want to give small companies the help they need to become large companies, and that’s why we use local firms and mentor them, if needed.”
In 2003, the Daniel S. Catalfumo Family Foundation was created by Catalfumo and his children to benefit local non-profit organizations and community initiatives by giving back to the Southeast Florida community. Since then, the Foundation and affiliated companies have contributed nearly $2 million to worthwhile causes. The Foundation donates funds, materials and supplies to a broad range of organizations that provide food, shelter and emergency assistance; mental and physical health assistance; abuse and neglect prevention; education and the cultural arts; holiday activities; and civic enrichment.
“This year marks an important milestone for my company with 30 successful years behind it. As I look toward the future, I remain confident that we will continue to grow as a leader in our industry, thanks to the many clients who look to us for our design-build capabilities, and to the many subcontractors who work with us to deliver projects that exceed expectations,” Catalfumo said.
Catalfumo, who is the visionary and general contractor behind the recently completed 2700 North Ocean condominium resort on Singer Island, will now focus his attention on the property immediately to the south, which it also owns: the former Ocean Mall. He expects to commence construction on its redevelopment this summer, and also to continue projects along The PGA Corridor.
